Video: Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) with Lou Dobbs on Fast and Furious

Tea Party freshman, Trey Gowdy (R-SC) is on both the House Oversight committee and the House Judiciary committee. He is also a former federal prosecutor. He has been very good at questioning witnesses in the Fast and Furious hearings. He grilled ATF SAC William Newell back on July 26th about Newell's email to White House employee Kevin O'Reilly in which the former prefaced his forward with 'you didn't get these from me.' Here, Gowdy implies that Holder either lied or is so grossly disconnected from his staff that he is incompetent.

House Judiciary Chairman sends Letter to Obama, calls for Special Counsel

A huge chunk of the Justice Department stonewall relative to Operation Fast and Furious appears to be in the process of being dislodged. Whenever administration officials, to include DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano, FBI Director Robert Mueller, Asst Attorney General Robert Weich, Attorney General Eric Holder, and even Barack Obama are asked questions about the operation that allowed guns to 'walk' into Mexico, the default response has been that the DOJ IG has been assigned the task of investigating. That all changed with the release of memos that seem to implicate Eric Holder in the commission of perjury in front of the House Judiciary Committee on May 3rd.

Now House Judiciary committee chairman Lamar Smith, has sent Obama a letter, calling for a special independent counsel to investigate.

These events are significant on many levels. Here is video of an interview Obama gave to Univision's Jorge Ramos earlier this year during which the president said that neither he nor Eric Holder authorized the program that led to the death of hundreds of Mexican civilians and at least one Federal US agent (Brian Terry). Obama also said he had not been informed about the operation. Assuming he was telling the truth (I know, it's a stretch), he should want Holder fired immediately.

By the way, the New York Times has actually picked up on this story but seems to have a difficult time printing Brian Terry's name, referring to him only as 'border agent.'

There's one aspect to all of this I keep coming back to. If Holder's defense is that he didn't read the memos he received on Fast and Furious, what does that say about the person who authored them? The implication is that Asst Atty General Lanny Breuer knew about the operation but Holder did not. By claiming he didn't read the memos, isn't Holder throwing Breuer under the bus?

Video Shock: Darrell Issa on CNN about Special Counsel for Eric Holder

You know Fast and Furious is getting legs when it makes Anderson Cooper's program. You know those legs are picking up momentum when he interviews Rep. Darrell Issa, who actually walks away with having sufficiently gotten his message across. The issue here is whether Attorney General Eric Holder perjured himself on May 3, 2011 when he said the first time he learned about Fast and Furious was a 'few weeks' earlier. This week, documents were released that showed Holder had been briefed on the operation multiple times as early as July, 2010. Cooper hits Issa with a couple of questions that if the latter wasn't prepared, could have flubbed. Fortunately, Issa was more than prepared and responded forcefully.

Though Issa doesn't go as far as saying Holder lied under oath, he did say the Justice Department lied when it said Issa had been briefed on Fast and Furious much earlier as well. He then illustrates the absurdity perfectly by saying that the DOJ would have people believe that Issa knew more about the operation than the Attorney General did.

Two big wins for those who want to see this story exposed. First, CNN actually taking notice of Fast and Furious. Second, Issa's clarity about what's at issue here. Interview starts at about the 3:00 mark.

Video: Obama by the Numbers

This video really nails the destruction wrought by the mantra of 'hope and change.' In 2008, Americans elected a president with such a propensity for lying that telling the truth seems to be a rare occurrence. In this video, there are clips of Obama speaking before he was elected and today, juxtaposed with factual statistics to the right of the screen that completely expose his lies. It's hard to imagine a bigger liar in the oval office pre-Obama but I'll say this, the YouTube age is helping to make Obama look like the worst ever, which he just might be.
